Edson Briggs Dead

Well Known Engineer Victim of Diabetes - Been in Critical Condition for Past Ten Days - Was at Work When Stricken.

Edson D. Briggs, for many years a resident of Lewiston and known and beloved throughout the entire central Idaho and eastern Washington region, passed away at the family residence on Fifth avenue at 9:10 o'clock last evening from complications resulting from diabetis. Mr. Briggs had been a sufferer from diabetis for several years. He followed the profession of civil engineer and was engaged in work on Lapwai creek last week when he was stricken with the attack that resulted in his death. He was brought to his home in the city the following day and since his arrival the members of his family and his physicians knew that his condition was most critical. Yesterday the physicians knew the end was near and the members of the family and friends were so apprised.

Mr. Briggs was a gentleman of fine character and most cordial disposition. His profession of civil engineer took him into all sections of the country and there are few better known men throughout the central Idaho and eastern Washington region than he was. He served Nez Perce county as surveyor for many years and served the government at the time the Nez Perce Indian reservation was platted and opened to settlement. He was also employed by the Northern Pacific at the time the Clearwater Short Line was located and was in fact identified with practically all the important development work in the Lewiston region.

Mr. Briggs enjoyed the high esteem of all who knew him. His fine qualities of character attracted to him the warmest friendships and he was always ready and anxious to serve these friends. The first announcement of his critical illness came to his friends as a profound shock and anxious inquiries were made daily as to his condition. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Mrs. Frank Morris. The funeral arrangements will be announced today.
