Culdesac, March 7. - Edward [Elwood] Johnson Miles, for the page 23 years station agent at Culdesac and for 53 years in the employ of the railways, died of heart trouble at 8 o'clock this morning at his home here. He had been ailing only slightly and his sudden passing was a _____ to the community. He was 70 years of age.

Mr. Miles was born in Cumberland, Md., and as a boy of 18 years went to work for the railroad, first service in stations and later as telegrapher and dispatcher on several railways in Maryland and Virginia. He was the second agent at this point, succeeding Ralph Bell, and for over 23 years people who passed in and out of Culdesac have come to know Mr. Miles and to love and respect him.

Mr. Miles was a devout member of the Culdesac Christian church and led an active Christian life. He also belonged to the Culdesac Odd Fellows lodge and was active in all its affairs until recent years.

Mr. Miles is survived by his widow and 13 children. The children are: Mrs. Claude Henderson, Mrs. Anzel McKenzie, Edna, Tom, Paul and Richard Miles of Lewiston; Mrs. Harry Campbell, Winchester; John Miles, student at the U. of I.; Doy Miles, Riparia; Bertha, Louis, Elmo and Frank Miles, Culdesac.

Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock tomorrow at the Culdesac Christian church, with the Odd Fellows lodge in charge. The sermon will be given by M. C. Johnson of Lewiston. The interment will be in the Lewiston Normal Hill cemetery, arrangements being by the Merchant Undertaking company of Clarkston.
