Jacob Moritz Is Dead

Well Known Orofino Man Merchant Passes Away - Many Years on the River Boats - Funeral Be Held in This City at Ten o'clock This Morning.

The remains of Jacob Moritz, the Orofino merchant, who died at noon Thursday, were brought to the city yesterday morning. The remains had been embalmed at the Stannus undertaking parlors in Orofino and were accompanied here by Mr. L. Stannus. The funeral will be held at 10 o'clock this morning from the Jaegar undertaking parlors in this city and interment will be made at the Normal Hill cemetery.

Mr. Moritz was a native of Kentucky and was born May 12, 1859. He came west when a small boy and was for many years employed on the boats of the Columbia and Snake river lines, filling the position of steward. He had a large acquaintance with the traveling public, was a man of wide liberality and his acts of kindness and charity made him popular with all. Mr. Moritz was steward on the steamer Faxon when the latter was blown up on a run to Riparia about ten years ago and he then suffered injuries from which he never entirely recovered and which finally resulted in an abscess on the head that caused his death. For some weeks it has been known he could not recover, but he bore up cheerfully to the closing hours. Every attention that medical skill could give was at his command and the services of a trained nurse, Mrs. Laura Savage, were secured. Mr. Moritz had been engaged in the merchandising business at Orofino for seven years and was an honored resident of that place. The citizens of the town have sent beautiful flowers here to be placed on the casket and the pall bearers will comprise Orofino citizens who will reach the city this morning. The deceased leaves a widow, formerly Miss Hattie Pixley, to mourn her great loss. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. J. D. McConkey.
