Hugh Porter Dead

Was Prominent Farmer of Gifford Section for Many Years.

Gifford, April 10. - (Special to the Tribune.) - Hugh Porter, a pioneer resident of the Gifford section, died suddenly at his home near Gifford at 8 o'clock this morning from cerebral hemorrhage. He was stricken but a few minutes before the end and his physician failed to reach the Porter home before he had passed away. Mr. Porter was in his usual good health during the morning and yesterday visited Lewiston with his son.

Mr. Porter came to the Gifford country 16 or 17 years ago and resided on his farm three-fourths of a mile north of town. He is survived by his wife and son. The funeral will be conducted Monday under the auspices of the Knights of Pythias lodge.

Mr. Porter was a gentleman who commanded the highest esteem of the entire community. He was always a leader in advancing the interests of the community and with his passing, the Gifford section loses one of its best citizens.
