Bert Reed Dead

Heart Disease, Probably Asphyxiation, the Cause.

Bert Reed, well known as a painter and paperhanger in Lewiston, Vollmer and Cottonwood, having been located at the latter point for several years until he came to Lewiston recently, died at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of John Baer on Fifth avenue, Normal Hill.

Mr. Reed had recently done some painting work at the Baer home and called there yesterday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Baer left shortly thereafter for a trip to Culdesac and at that time Mr. Reed was sitting in the home reading a newspaper. At the period he was engaged in painting work about the house he had complained of not being in good health but had made no complain yesterday.

A roomer in the house discovered him lying in the bathroom and Dr. J. N. Alley was summoned, but life was extinct when the physician arrived. Mr. Reed evidently had decided to take a bath and had turned on the gas when overcome by heart trouble. Dr. alley suggested that probably the gas flame did not absorb the full volume passing through the iet[?].

Mr. Reed was a widower, his wife passing away several years ago at Vollmer. He has three children but their whereabouts are at this time unknown. Any information as to the location of the children will be appreciated. The remains are at the Vassar undertaking parlors.

Mr. Reed was about 50 years old.
