Mrs. Mattie Smith Dead

Passed Away Yesterday Morning at Her Clarkston Apartments.

Mrs. Mattie Smith passed away at her apartments at the W. G. Calvin home, Eighth and Sycamore streets, yesterday morning at 2:20. Her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Stinson, of Greer, arrived Thursday evening and was at her bedside when the end came.

Mrs. Smith was born at Fort Wayne, Indiana, later moving to Kansas, where she passed her girlhood days. She lived in the middle west until about 35 years ago when she, with her husband and family, came to Craig mountain, taking up one of the first homesteads on the mountain, which was located near Westlake. About 17 years ago she, with her son, Harry, moved to Clarkston where they have since resided.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Christian Science church, and had consecrated her life to the service of her Master. Almost to the last, she was among her friends, especially the unfortunate ones to whom she brought comfort and cheer.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Stinson, and one son, Harry Smith, of Clarkston.

The funeral will be held at 3:30 tomorrow, from the Merchant chapel. The Christian Science service will be read. The burial will take place in the Normal Hill cemetery.
