Death From Appendicitis

Oscar Welcher died yesterday morning at the White hospital following an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Welcher was about 50 years of age but little is known of him here. He was employed at the Freepons place in Lewiston Orchards when he was stricken and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. His condition was such that an immediate operation was necessary, but he could not survive the shock and passed away about 5 o'clock yesterday morning.

Mr. Welcher had said that a sister, Mrs. Ellen Ross, resided at San Bernardino, Cal., and that he was well known in Colfax where he had a bank account. Inquiry made yesterday following his death failed to locate the sister, and the officers at Colfax could find no one who knew Welcher there.

No arrangements for the funeral have been made.

Cannot Identify Welcher

It is Now Believed Real Name was O. W. Wilson

The remains of the man who died at White's hospital at 5 o'clock Wednesday morning, giving his name when taken there Tuesday night as Oscar Welcher, remained unclaimed at the Vassar parlors yesterday, although every effort has been made to locate a sister and daughter he claimed to have residing at San Bernardino, Cal. Appendicitis was the cause of death, with which he was stricken last Tuesday. The disease was in such malignant form when Welcher arrived at the hospital that an operation was immediately performed, from which he failed to rally.

Since the man's death it has been learned that he signed the name of O. W. Wilson to a check cashed last Saturday night, and it is thought that this is the correct name. Little was known of the man locally, his employment, so far as ascertained, being confined to work in Lewiston Orchards. When stricken the man stated that he had a sister, Mrs. Ellen Ross, and a daughter, Miss Pearl Wilson, residing in California, but messages sent to these failed to be able to be delivered.
